Torsten Schmid (PhD) serves as senior researcher at the HBM School of Entrepreneurship (ES-HSG). In this capacity he has been co-responsible for the school’s competence development on the subject of management (applied research and development of new executive education content and formats) since January 2022.
His areas of expertise in research, teaching and executive education are strategic change, organizational design, collaboration in and between organizations, practice and system theories, qualitative research methods and research («Mode 2») that integrates leadership and organizational development. His research has been published in leading academic journals as well as in applied outlets.
He studied European Business Administration (Diploma) at the Universities of Bamberg (Germany) and Alcalá de Henares (Spain) and completed a PhD at the University of St. Gallen in strategic change. He then led as an assistant professor the methods consulting (qualitative research) at the University of St. Gallen and teaches since then qualitative methods at the HSG and other universities. He is a faculty affiliate of the Center for Organizational Research, University of California Irvine (USA). He works or has worked with leading, international corporations, including Siemens, UBS, Allianz, Lufthansa, Bühler Group und Amadeus IT Group.
