This compact online seminar deepens the knowledge of newcomers and career changers of the international insurance industry.
Over a period of five weeks (with a time investment of 3.5 hours per week), this online seminar will deepen your understanding of how the insurance industry works and the challenges it faces today. In compact units, you will gain a basic understanding of the structures of national and international insurance markets and the special features of market services in life and non-life insurance. The processes of product development, sales and claims management are explained. This will prepare you to understand better the technical and financial aspects of insurance management.

The basic seminar Fit for Insurance is aimed at managers with limited knowledge of the industry as well as career changers who need a professional insight into important markets, products and mechanisms of the insurance industry in a short time.

In your professional development to date, have you worked in a sub-sector of insurance or, as a career changer, are you looking for an overview of how the insurance industry works and the current challenges it faces? In response to the growing need for a condensed introduction, we developed – on the basis our our well-established three-day on campus seminar – an English-speaking basic seminar Fit for Insurance solely offered virtually.
In compact learning units, we convey a basic understanding of of the structures of national and international insurance markets as well as the special features of market performance in life and non-life insurance. We shed light on the processes in product development, in sales and claims management and and claims management, and develop the actuarial and financial fundamentals. The broad mix of participants brings together a wide range of perspectives from different countries countries, lines of business and companies and enables an enriching exchange on current practices and challenges.

Your Faculty Director
The design of this online programme is guided by I.VW-HSG as well as insurance experts, who will share experiences and in-depth knowledge with you throughout the course.
Martin Eling is doing empirical research in the intersection of insurance management, mathematics, and economics. After his doctoral degree in 2005 he joined the I.VW-HSG as a postdoctoral researcher. In 2008 he was visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Then in 2009 he was appointed Professor of Insurance at the University of Ulm. Since November 2011 he is Director of the I.VW-HSG and holds the Chair for Insurance Management at the University of St.Gallen. The Chair was established with support of the Swiss insurance industry.
